Current Projects

W. F. Magann Corporation is continually working on new projects, both large and small, for public and private sector clients. Some of our major current projects include:

  • Dry Dock No. 8 Modernization
    Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Virginia
Our scope of work provides for a ±60' extension to Dry Dock No. 8 to service the new CVN class hull with the bulbous bow. All work, except demolition of the existing headwall, has to be performed while the dry dock remains operational. This poses a unique challenge. Using the new headwall as a retaining wall, we are building the structure from the top down as we excavate ±70' down to the bottom. Demolition of existing structures and utilities will be required to support the project; as well as, providing utility trenches, mechanical and electrical related work, and other incidental related work.
  • Dry Dock No. 8 - Repair Walls and Floor
    Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Virginia
Our scope of work includes the demolition of the existing deteriorated concrete on the floor and walls of the drydock. New concrete will be installed to replace the deteriorated concrete and will be anchored to the existing concrete to remain. The work requires dewatering around the entire drydock to reduce buoyancy and maintain stability of the structure during execution of the work and to control ground water infiltration through the existing concrete. Our scope includes the removal and replacement/reinstallation of existing utilities, equipment, structures, and appurtenances within the dock and incidental civil sitework.
  • Advanced Degaussing System (ADS) Upgrade
Lambert's Point Deperming Facility, Norfolk, Virginia
Our scope of work includes upgrading the Advanced Degaussing System (ADS) located at the Lambert's Point Deperming Facility, Norfolk, Virginia. The primary components of the ADS consist of a series of underwater cable systems, associated junction boxes and support platforms and two magnetometer arrays and associated junction boxes and cables trays.
  • Repairs to W306 and W305 Bulkheads
    Naval Station Norfolk, Norfolk, Virginia
Our scope of work includes steel sheet pile installation in front of the existing bulkhead with lean concrete in-fill and a jet-grouted soil curtain wall behind the existing bulkhead; installation of additional rip rap material overlay for sheet pile toe stabilization; seawall repairs by concrete replacement; cleat replacement; demolition of the existing timber fender system and its repair by installation of prestressed concrete fender piles; pavement demolition and excavation of fill material behind the existing bulkhead; and installation of filter fabric, stabilization fabric, backfilling, compaction, asphalting, and re-striping of the parking lot in the area of excavation; and incidental related work.
  • North Wharf Rehabilitation
BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair, Norfolk, Virginia
Our scope of work consists of the rehabilitation by replacement of the existing wharf located to the north of Pier No. 3. The new wharf construction consists of the installation of a cast-in-place concrete deck slab supported by 18" square and 20" square prestressed concrete piles. The new wharf will be approximately 60 feet wide by 500 feet long and will include approximately 420 linear feet of a steel sheet pile cutoff wall along the inboard edge of the wharf. The existing wharf construction will be abandoned in place. The new work also includes grading of areas adjacent to the wharf to facilitate proper site drainage, the provision of mechanical utilities, and the provision of electrical conduits for future electrical utilities.
  • Design/Build Repairs to Berth 20
    Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Virginia
Our scope of work consists of replacing the existing structurally deficient open wharf with a new open wharf; as well as, providing a new retaining wall to replace the existing deficient retaining wall. We are also providing an open wharf infill to the existing barge slip lying to the south of Berth 20. Repairs include the replacement/refurbishment/abandonment of existing structures and demolition/replacement of pavement, utility trenches, mooring fixtures, underground utilities, and the timber fender system.
